Laser Hair Removal
What is laser hair removal?
Laser hair removal is a medical procedure that uses a concentrated beam of light (laser) to remove unwanted hair. A laser emits a light that is absorbed by the pigment (melanin) in the hair. The light energy is converted to heat, which damages the hair follicles that produce hairs. This damage inhibits and delays future hair growth. Unlike other methods of hair removal, such as shaving, tweezing, and waxing, laser hair removal permanently destroys the hair follicles. This means the hair will not grow back after treatment. No more worrying about the daily hassle of removing unwanted hair. Laser hair removal is relatively painless. Most patients describe it as feeling like a small pinch, or rubber band snapping against the skin.
Additionally, laser hair removal is a relatively quick procedure, with most treatments taking only 15-30 minutes.
How often do I need LHR?
Depending on the hair skin type and body area being treated, you will require treatments at 4-6 weeks intervals. For the facial area, treatments can be done at 2-4 week intervals. Typically you can expect a 10%-25% reduction in hair after the first treatment. Most individuals need 6-10 treatments and then yearly maintenance. Many do not see hair on the treated skin for several months or even years. If the hair grows back, it comes in less and sparse. Factors for regrowth include hormonal changes, pregnancy, medications. etc.
